I WANT A PC!
« on: July 20, 2017, 10:22:41 PM »
Hello everyone,

Currently I am playing on a MSI Laptop GP 72 2QE Leopard Pro, i7 5700HQ CPU, Geforce GTX 950M, 8 gigs of ram. And soon enough I am having a new job which will pay me off about 1400/1500 euro's a month and I wanne save money for a new pc, for maybe 1500/2000 euro's. I rlly do not have that much knowledge on how that works - and how I can find the right specs which could easily have me play on 20 to 60 FPS on med/high settings. I'd like to ask if any members of the unit could help me out with this. Currently I can surprisingly play on 20 to 36 fps (on full servers), the reason of that is because I clean the fan once in 2 months, but its time for a pc!

Drop your ideas down here to help a brother out!

Thank you,
PV1 L. Masters

Suggest you read through some of the recent threads already here on this sub-forum.  There are at least two that are fairly recent and have good discussions about building/buying new gaming PCs on a budget.

"Building my first PC on a budget"

"First build; seeking feedback"

"Building my first desktop"  (this is slightly older (started in December) but still good)

This is what I got atm

You are going a little overkill with the power supply, but if you plan to upgrade GPU and other parts in the future it could save some money in the long run. You only would really need a 500w PSU with this current setup. You might want another storage drive of some kind as well, because the 506th modded Arma is about 60gb and I assume you will have other programs and games that you would like installed. Hard drives are much cheaper than solid state memory but will be slower to launch programs and transfer files.

Could you maybe change some things which would be good?

All that I really would do is add either a HDD or SSD depending on how much more money you would like to spend. A 1TB SSD will be $300 and up depending on speeds, and a 1TB HDD will be about $50 but will be slower. WD Blue series HDDs are very good and Samsung 850 Evo SSDs are very good. There are of course many other great options. You could also pick a 550W-650W PSU and save around $50 and this will still keep some room for upgrades in the future.

Edit: you also could save $30-40 if you get Windows 10 Home instead of Pro. I don't know if you would be using any of the extra features though.

it would also probably be good to know that on a full server, 20 to 36 fps is pretty much what you can expect. not much higher than that. this is because the server performance dictates the max fps you can get, and on a full server running an opp, the server will be strained to the point where your fps can easily dip to below 20.

(thank god for the new server though, performance increased a lot.)

20 fps is perfect tbh, recently my gaming laptop got horrible lagg issues which im trying to fix by cleaning the fan again this week, and overheating is a problem that might grow

I would get intel for gaming over Ryzen.

Ryzen is more geared toward content creation than raw high speed gaming.
