Audio Issues [Resolved]
« on: January 06, 2019, 08:17:41 PM »
Hi all,

If anyone has any ideas, I'm open to anything. So after our most recent update to everything, I can't get any audio at all from Arma. So I've updated Teamspeak, TFAR, and all of the mods listed under the mod update thread. Here are the things I've tried already:

1) Alt-tab and then go back to the Arma window (someone mentioned this fixed audio problems for them once)
2) Verified the game files from Steam
3) Checked audio settings in game and out of game to make sure everything is unmuted and set to the correct playback device
4) Reinstalled Arma completely through Steam
5) Reinstalled all of the mods that I updated to
6) Loaded Arma without any mods at all (still no sound)

And I've maybe tried a few other random things, but I'm forgetting them right now. A super weird thing about this as well is that I've found that if I load Arma without any mods I still don't get any sound (like listed above) BUT if I go into my Arma directory and literally launch the executable directly, I do get sound. So from what I've gathered, it seems like something to do with the launcher. Usually I'm pretty good at troubleshooting stuff like this, but no luck this time. Any ideas?

Regards,
CPL R. Steele

Thanks again for the suggestions all. Turned out it was something to do with admin rights. I set the properties on both Steam and the Arma launcher to always run as admin and that seemed to do the trick. I'll change the subject to show this is resolved.

Also if there is personnel in the unit who want to remove or archive this post, you're more than welcome but I'll leave it up myself in case someone may want to refer to it.

This is the only option pertaining to audio available in the launcher, perhaps this could help?

I did stumble across that option when reading through some bug posts and such for the launcher and mine is not checked.

Not sure if this is your issue, just some things I noticed on occasion...

If you unplug the audio output (i.e. headset, or speakers, or after alt-tab-ing) after launching ARMA, Windows will switch the output to another source, the game or TFAR may reward you with no sound in game.
right click on the speaker icon in the task bar and check the output matches what you expected if you experience no sound joy,

Steam may also switch the output if the last one it was using goes away. I don't know where they moved the sound input/output  options in their new leet interface. you will have to ask the internets.

alternately,

Teamspeak under certain scenarios also switches the sound output sometimes, just to keep you on your toes. if this occurs, go to the options and make sure the sound output/input sources are what you expect.

This almost sounds like it could be a UAC type issue to me. When you launch an executable from another executable, UAC can cause problems. Try launching Steam or at minimum the Arma Launcher 'As Administrator' to bypass UAC. I've not heard of this affecting only sound before, but because it isn't consistent through the method of launch, it is worth a try.
