New recruit: ArmA3Sync problems
« on: March 05, 2015, 09:00:40 PM »
New recruit here. Having some very strange issues with ArmA3Sync.

First, I cannot connect to the repository, specifically the primary member repository system. When attempting to connect, I receive one of two error messages.

The first: "Failded [sic] to read file /.a3s/sync. IOException caught while copying."
The second: "Failed to connect to repository 506th Infantry Regiment - Member repository system on url ftp://62.210.167.47. Connect timed out."

I'm sure the first is some sort of Java error. The second is strange, because I'm able to ping the IP, and I've disabled all of my router's security filtering as a test to make sure it wasn't being blocked or made inaccessible by my local equipment. There does not appear to be any rhyme or reason to the alternating error messages; it's almost like ArmA3Sync is just picking one and throwing it at me.

My second issue is with configuring the TFAR installer menu. When I select my TS3 location, C:\Program Files\TeamSpeak 3 Client, and click Proceed, I receive an error message stating that "TFAR plugin task_force_radio_win64.dll is missing." I have copied the relevant plugins to the TeamSpeak 3 Client\plugins folder, and have enabled the TFAR plugins in TeamSpeak. Google is of no help on this issue.

I followed the ArmA3Sync and 506th repository guides to the letter on first setup. What am I doing wrong?

Edit: I've solved my problem with the missing .dll. The repository instructions imply that the .dll and sound plugin files are only to be copied to the plugins folder in the TeamSpeak 3 Client folder. You must also create a plugins folder in the @task_force_radio mod folder and drop the plugins there.

This is taken care of automatically when installing mods via the repository, however, the repository is extremely slow to the point of being useless, at least for me. I'm not sure if people are hammering the servers due to the large mod updates released earlier, but there is definitely a performance issue on the repository. This is likely causing the error messages listed above. Guess I'll just have to hit the repository off peak hours.

First: Have you installed this java runtime? As mentioned at top on the guide: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/jre7-downloads-1880261.html

The slow download speed can be solved by allowing it trough anti-virus and running the program as administrator.

Yes, Java 7u76 is installed. I completely removed all Java versions on my system, rebooted, then installed that specific version. Additionally, my AV is Microsoft Security Essentials, so it's automatically allowed, there is no exemption list to configure. Lastly, yes, I am running as administrator (enabled in the Compatibility tab of the Properties menu).

The repository is responding much more quickly at this time (7:35 AM Eastern). So the issues I've had over the last 2 days had to have been related to high traffic during peak evening hours. Looks like I'll need to hit the repository at off hours to update.

While I'm on the topic of the repository, how many optional addons are there supposed to be? I see only two on the repository: @st_stamina_bar and @sthud.

May also be that this repository is stationed at Europe. And the traffic over the atlantic ocean is high at that moment you tried.

Have not added more of the optional mods than that yet.

Those two are the only authorized "extra" mods in the repository.  There are other client-side mods that are allowed, however until you're more familiar with how to set up the files to work properly, I'd just stick with what the repository gives you.  You're not missing out on much by trying to run the extra authorized stuff.  It doesn't add that much to the game over what the 506th Pack already contains in my opinion.  I only run the minimum authorized mods from the repository to prevent errors that can effect the entire server....

That would definitely explain it. Cross-continental traffic is pretty slow. I tried for 2 days in US eastern prime time, which should be in the early morning hours in Europe. Guess that's the issue.

I'm all synced up with the repository now. Thanks to everyone for the suggestions and explanations. Though I do still think the Teamspeak plugin installation in the repository documentation could be a little more clearly explained for those who are manually installing, but I get that it's a niche case--the repository correctly downloads the files to the correct location in the plugins folder.

Understood, thank you. Given my connection problems to the repository, I just wanted to make sure I was seeing everything available, instead of a somehow-truncated list of mods. I'm fully synced as of a couple hours ago.

TAO Folding map is a beauty, you can look at the map (location around you) in a tablet size view while still being able to see your surroundings, I use it often.
