Frame Issue on the Assault server
« on: January 16, 2016, 03:30:35 PM »
I just played for the first time on the Assault server and I have a constant 50-60 frames on Ultra at the main base HQ and everything is perfect. I HALO into the AO and after 2-3 min or when i first start to encounter a town with contacts i drop to 15 and below until I die and respwan back at the HQ. This is really confusing me due to the fact that I did just upgrade my PC over my Christmas break not even a month ago. If anyone has any advice to help me out it would be very greatly appreciated, thank you.

I really do not have an answer as to "why" on a technical level. The main excuse I keep hearing is how badly Arma 3 is optimized. My machine is running 4790k Quad Core at 4.1Ghz, 16GB at 2400Mhz, and Nvidia 970 FTW+ Edition.. and i've fallen to even fewer frames than you mention. In Ops when in the air, I've been as low as 9fps at times. Arma is just horribly optimized in online multiplayer. I have no idea what it's spending all those CPU cycles doing.. but its effecting everyone. Would advise you to lower view distance to 3000ish (or little lower) in your ACE settings for On Foot.

The fact that you're getting these FPS drops while in contact rather than the main base shows it's on your end and not the servers which isn't necessarily a bad thing as it means that you can make an impact on your performance and you're not being bottle necked by the server.

I would fiddle around with some of the options found here: http://wiki.day0.com.au/ArmA_3_Performance_Tweaks_and_Settings_Guide as I know for me I squeezed out some extra frames.

Alright! Thanks Guys I will try those out today and see if anything works and I'll update you guys to see if anything worked. BTW my computer plays fine on any other game on my PC including CSGO, Arma 2 (takinstan life, DayZ mod, and regular domination servers), and Squad. That's why I thought it may have been something via server side and not client side, but I will try out that link!

ArmA 3 has a funny way of calling itself 'optimized'. Namely being that is only really uses 2 cores, some lower graphic options use your CPU to render rather than your GPU, PiP kills frames pretty hard etc. ArmA 2 thanks to being a 7 year old game now is largely playable simply due to it being outdated and most other games simply do run better.

For a point of reference for upgrading in the future for ArmA, your CPU is always more important than your GPU.

Don't compare the performance of Arma 3 to other games. There are not many other games that are coded the way Arma is. Arma is very CPU intensive game. Just my $0.02

The real question is when the assault server is going to be back up ever since the server changes. Any idea?
