RE: International Intervention in Napf and the Sea of Japan
The following intelligence report is classified and should only be distributed to authorised personnel.
Japanese IntelligenceDue to the increasing danger to trade and travel posed by the ongoing conflict in Napf, Japanese and South Korean intelligence agencies have launched intel-gathering operations within Napf. Reports immediately revealed atrocities committed on the island, although all active groups deny committing the war crimes. In addition to this, Japanese intelligence points towards the possible presence of ballistic missiles weapon systems on Napf. Reports suggested that weapons were lost by the PRNA during the initial fighting and various defections of government forces, but it is unknown if they have been recovered or in the hands of one or more of the rebel factions. All military forces on the island deny possessing any ballistic missile weapon systems.
International InvolvementPresenting the intelligence, Japan and South Korea requested assistance from NATO to intervene for fear the ballistic missiles being used against the Napf civilians or neighboring countries by the warring parties. NATO refused to involve itself citing a potential repeat of the Iraq war. The NATO Secretary General stated, “As the information regarding ballistic missiles are inconclusive, it is the opinion of the NATO Security Council that until substantial evidence is presented regarding the existence of ballistic missiles in the region, NATO will not commit forces to Napf.”
Shortly after the NATO Security General’s decision, Japan and South Korea deployed a joint military intervention force on Napf, welcomed by the East Sea Liberation Army (ESLA, a rebel force in Napf) who assisted foreign forces in establishing an FOB in South-Eastern Napf for resupply and reinforcement. The Japanese Navy reports that it has also dispatched a scaled naval armada off of Napf’s southeast shores to ensure the security of the resupply and reinforcement activities in the Sea of Japan, and is in the process of airlifting supplies from Okushiri airport to Napf.
Japanese forces arriving in Napf.Japanese Army captain organizing his troops.Active Military GroupsThe People’s Republic of Napf National ArmyThe PRNA is the government military force that protects and defends the sovereign territory of Napf and its commander’s showed outraged with foreign troops on its soil. A stern warning was broadcast from the PNRA’s Commanding Officer stating “any international military force found on Napf are committing an act of war and decisive military action will be taken against all foreign forces within the sovereign borders of Napf.”
The East Sea Liberation ArmyESLA asserts the desire to create a government with reduced dependencies on North Korea and reduce the size of the military. This conservative movement began as a political movement but the escalation of hostilities by Napf Government forces and reported illegal detainment with brutal interrogation tactics and torture have led to deaths has caused this movement to arm itself. Chom Kyung-Ho, the Leader of ESLA, praised the involvement of Japanese and South Korean forces as the combined military might of ESLA and the international forces will surely defeat the Communist puppets. However, the ESLA military commander, General Nang Hyun, made it clear that he does not trust the motives of the international troops and does not believe their loyalties will prove useful to ESLA’s strategic goals, creating a secondary front from which ESLA will have to fight and result in further loss of life.
The Movement of Soviet NationalistsMOSN was established by a Russian ethnic group from a relatively suppressed background as an ethnic minority within Napf, having been treated in lower regard by the Korean-Asian majority. They show signs of a Pro-Soviet left-wing paramilitary group with the intent of establishing a left-wing socialist government based on equality and fraternity.
HUMINT confirms that MOSN leadership is structured in a power-sharing fashion, in which it is not led by one individual, but several high ranking officials with equal influence, based on their collective ideals. PRNA direct action “kill or capture” teams are conducting focused hunter/killer operations for key leaders within this organization. MOSN therefore is careful not to disclose leadership identities to the public and even lower ranking members within the movement.
While unconfirmed, it is probable that MOSN is receiving support and/or supplies from Russia. Battle reports between MOSN and the PRNA indicate this group is similarly armed to ESLA.
