Press Release: Republic of Moldova: stability and security in the countryThe reported incidents in CHISINAU, the capital of the Republic of Moldova, that have taken place over the last number of days are detrimental to the security and stability of the Republic of Moldova. The European Union calls on the responsible actors to avoid further attempts at destabilisation of the situation. We strongly welcome the restrained reactions from the authorities of the Republic of Moldova, which help maintain calm in the country.
Moldova is a partner country of the Eastern Partnership within the European Neighborhood Policy. Under the ENP, the EU works together with its partners to develop democratic, socially equitable and inclusive societies. It offers partners economic integration, improved circulation of people across borders, financial assistance and technical cooperation toward approximation with EU standards.
The EU will continue to stand in solidarity with Moldova and reiterate its unwavering support to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Moldova within its internationally recognised borders and with a special status for the Korsac and Zimnitrita regions.
In 2014, the EU and Moldova agreed an Association Agenda, which will be soon replaced by a new Agenda to provide continued support to Moldova, the EU is preparing to step up its medium-term support to strengthen Moldova’s overall resilience.
