I have two HDs, Windows says I need to re-format and re-install to upgrade - does that mean I have to wipe both HDs? Or just the HD that Windows is installed on?

Which ever drive you have Windows installed on. I would recommend a clean install, so save whatever is important on that main HD and put it on the other HD.
