Terrain Builder
« on: August 26, 2015, 09:50:59 AM »
Has anyone had any luck with a particular mod or program for terrain building/map making in Arma outside of Zeus & editor? Trying to do things as far as laying roads, moving buildings that are pre-built into the maps and things like that. I've only recently been dipping my toe in the zeusing/mission building waters and looking to taylor some stuff...

You could also try Map Builder:

I use X-cam. A little more challenging to use, but more features.

I would recommend xcam as well. It is a bit of a challenge at first but once you are use to it, its wonderful.

Is xCam just for object placement? Or can you modify existing objects like trees and lay roads, pavement, etc? I know we won't have something official and fancy like that till the next Arma map expansion, but something close would be nice...

If I remember correctly it does both, and quite well.

In the first developer release video, I could have sworn they said they were releasing a map maker tool...

you cant modify or adjust existing objects, they are part of the map and are binarized hardcoded to the map.

to lay roads you will have to download a mod that makes the roads into objects which you can then lay down, however everyone will have to have this mod.

Roads are painted along polylines that are created in terrain builder.

If you want complete freedom, make an empty map with terrain builder (atlas guide to terrain building on armaholic). and then use x cam and what not to place all objects.

Due note this will be harder on the fps then making a normal map with the objects already on there.

I took what they said as converting the current 2D editor into a 3D Editor similar to Zeus but with added functionality of the 2D editor. Zeus is great, but it lacks a lot of the functionality that the 2D editor has like placing triggers, putting down server modules, telling AI to hold fire/open fire, having AI do animations, etc.

I'd be thrilled with just that, Sir.
