COMMS TS/TFAR Issue?
« on: May 06, 2016, 07:30:11 PM »
I'm having a little issue and wanted to see if anyone else has experienced it. I initially thought it was other people's TFAR's fucking up, but now I'm not so sure.

I'll hear somebody transmit over the radio and then immediately after, I'll hear them repeat the same thing; and at this point it's kind of choppy and sounds like they're talking over global. Can anyone lend any hints as to what might be going on?
Thanks in advance.

ps. It does not happen consistently but enough to make it concerning.

You may want to check that someone doesn't have their radio set to Speaker. If it is, anything transmitted on that net will come over the radio's speaker, and you'll hear it if you're in a certain radius of the individual. You can know for sure, if you get close to the sound, and if you open broadcast on that specific net, you'll hear loud feedback from their speaker. Then you can tell them to set it to headphones, and if that's your problem, all will be well.

Appreciate the response. It is quite different in comparison to that, it sounds like when some jerk off starts yelling over global.

If a server has ARMAs built in Voice over Net turned on, I've ran into a bug where using the standard ptt key it will transmit both through teamspeak/tfar, and the ARMA clients VoN as well.

Interesting, so it is them and not me?
Additionally, it happens on the assault server all the time for me. Happened a few times, but not as much, in fun missions.

I had it happen sporadically on the Jackal server until I turned the ARMA VoN off. Not sure thats your actually issue, but its similar.

I can report identical symptoms, but it only happens in the assault server for me.  Very strange indeed.  I'll test a bit more in there and see what I can learn.

I am 90% sure that this is due to the VoN issue.  If I was you, I'd go into your settings, turn down your VoN transmit and receive volumes down to 0 and see if that fixes it.  Naturally you will have to turn them back up if you decide you want to go onto a server and use VoN but this is a solution if you want to stop it from happening when you have TFAR enabled.

Okay, for anyone who is having this issue. I figured out what it is that's making this happen.
Sometimes the channel (side chan, global, direct) will be engaged when you transmit on the radio (perhaps just 'capslock' & not 't'?). If your channel is set to 'global', some individuals will hear you speak and then immediately hear an echo of the same statement. If someone is in that situation, just have them switch to 'Command Channel' or something that isn't used for everyone in the server (ie: side, global, group). This will fix it so you can conduct your mission without that annoyance.

or, you know, unbind the push to talk key for ingame comms

I think it's something different that is happening here though. Has nothing to do with same bindings

Just turn down your VON (voice over net) volume. That will fix it.
