RE: International Intervention in Napf and the Sea of Japan
The following intelligence report is classified and should only be distributed to authorised personnel.
Attack on Okushuri Airport, JapanWhat is suspected to be a Short Range Ballistic Missile (SRBM) was launched in the early morning hours from Napf. The missile hit the Japanese intervention forces staging area located at Okushuri Airport and the surrounding area at 05:35 this morning. Early reports indicate 350 individuals dead or missing and over 500 injured. The death toll is still rising. One emergency management representative said there are both military and civilian dead and wounded, including women and children. The airport is listed as closed to all air and ground traffic except emergency vehicle traffic.
The Japanses Defense Minister commented, “Japan is not the only nation wounded in this blatant, criminal attack. South Korean, US, and other nations have lost good people in today’s attack. When we became aware of these weapons, we few chose to act to prevent such a catastrophe, even when others would not come to our aid. We failed. We hope that our neighbours now see the threat that this conflict poses to all of us.”
Unlike the multiple intercepted or failed missile launches during the Iraq war, this missile strike happened too quickly and with such little warning that a timely reaction was near-impossible.
The Japanese Defense Minister also commented that while the missile launch was picked up by several radar installations, the distance covered by that size missile only took minutes before impacting at the airport.
North American ResponseOver the last few hours, the United States and Canada have dispatched military advisors to Japan and are currently establishing the East Sea Assistance Force (ESAF) for bilateral military operations alongside Japan and South Korea. Both countries have started to deploy naval and military forces to the region.
The NATO Secretary General stated, “The greater threat to human lives beyond the borders of Napf has been regrettably seen by this disastrous attack. Experts estimate the payload of the deadly missile was approximately 6 kilotons but confirmation is forthcoming.”
US Secretary of Defense commented during a press conference on the situation in Napf, “Today, Democracy came under attack by means of a deliberate and deadly missile strike. The victims were travellers, people working at the airport, and military personnel from multiple nations. Hundreds of lives were suddenly ended or permanently wounded by this despicable act of war. The United States will honor its commitment to the defense of our allies in the East Sea area by immediate mobilization of forces to the region.”
Under the ESAF charter, this coalition’s purpose is to locate and either secure or destroy all ballistic missiles, firing and transportation components within the sovereign borders of Napf to prevent future attacks.
Political Response in NapfPRNA - Shortly after the US SecDef’s comments, the PRNA made a formal declaration of war against all foreign forces involved in ESAF. PRNA’s Commander General Myong Hyonjun, stated, “It is the responsibility of the PRNA to secure Napf, not foreign military forces whose intent cannot be verified. All foreign military or security forces are enemies of Napf and will be engaged accordingly as their presence is illegal and in breach of international law.”
ANALYST COMMENT: Over the last 24 hours, reports from Napf indicate the PRNA have detained and imprisoned all foreign nationals within its area of control citing espionage and spying.
ESLA - Reports indicate the ESLA are considered allies to ESAF, welcoming international forces through mutual military operational and intelligence agreements. While this is great news, the intelligence community (IC) continues to seek verification of the ESLA’s intent.
ANALYST COMMENT: Since the beginning of hostilities, ESLA was the first to engage the PRNA. By default, ESAF is siding with the anti-government faction thus giving the PRNA no choice but to declare war against ESAF forces.
MOSN – Continues to maintain a neutral stance against ESAF but caution is advised as its motives are unclear with its unconfirmed ties to Russia. PRNA remains in combat with this group in northern Napf, therefore ESAF is not expected to be engaged by these forces in the near future.
ANALYST COMMENT: MOSN and ESLA attacks against PRNA have been guerrilla tactics similar to FARC with interdiction of supply convoys, hit-and-run and drive-by type attacks. MOSN and ESLA hold ground in Napf, predominantly in the NW and SE respectively.
