Rotary Wing Pilot

I'm deciding on what MOS I wish to join as and had a question regarding Rotary Wing Pilots. Do you have to be a stellar pilot, or can you just know the basics and learn as you go? I'm quite interested in learning more about flying. I just want to know so I can apply for the appropriate MOS. Thanks.

Sarsfield,

Once a new member has applied, there is recruit training and OSUT that takes at least 2 weeks to complete. Following OSUT, every member is a qualified infantryman.

Should an opening exist within Delta Company, (the 506th’s rotary aviation unit) the MOS of 153A can be selected to enter flight school as a WOC (Warrant Officer Candidate).

A WOC then begins flight school which takes 30-45 days on average to complete. There are 5 days of flight school and a WOC should expect to spend 2-3 hours flying on their own in preparation for each day in order to meet the standard.

Myself and my instructors have made great pilots of students with minimal experience given the students are committed enough. It’s a tall order, but given the time and dedication from the student, our flight school creates stellar pilots.

I hope this helps.
