UN Dispatches Partner Troops to Quell Turkmenistan Humanitarian Crisis

TASHKENT, UZBEKISTAN - The sound of idling jet engines fills the air in the early morning hours of the arid Monday morning at Karimov Tashkent International Airport. Scores of men stand in files awaiting the arrival of utility helicopters, while in the distance, a C-17 Globemaster offloads its stores of armoured vehicles intended to protect those soldiers.
Their next destination: the Uzbek-Turkmenistan border.
Small cohorts of troops such as these arrive every few hours or so in the Uzbek capital, which has quickly become the staging ground for the UN-backed task force founded several weeks ago in response to the deteriorating state of affairs in neighbouring Turkmenistan. Riots, political power struggles, and general unrest have plagued the Central Asian state in recent weeks, leading to increased international attention as issues surrounding fraudulent democratic processes have come to light. In a recent boilover of affairs, most likely linked to the Turkmen regime's systematic starving of its people through hoarding of food and critical resources, hostilities have exploded in what appears to be the beginnings of a civil conflict within the country.
Just yesterday, the UN Security Council unanimously passed Resolution 2637, condemning the overall failure of the Turkmen state to observe basic human rights as well as establishing the US-led "UNOTURM" to begin security operations and shipments of aid. It is currently unclear what sort of partnership the UN Task Force will have, but preparations have been underway over the last week to rally and ready UN coalition peacekeeping forces that will form the centrepiece of this peacekeeping mission, and the involvement of both the United States and the United Kingdom are sure to entice NATO & UN member states allocation of troops and resources, as well as nations sharing the northern borders with Turkmenistan.
Squadron Sergeant Major Clyde Porter, from his hasty field headquarters between piles of gear bags, has no doubt about his mission.
"We can't ignore the people suffering out there," The Sergeant Major insisted. "Whatever party may lay claim to Turkmenistan's governing authority, the UN doesn't need their permission to do the right thing, and that is exactly what we intend to do."
TIR Correspondent, Jessica Hayes, relayed the scepticism voiced by critics in the international media.
>"How will you ensure enough of the supplies will go where they're supposed to?"
>>"SAC brings what we need. Past that, I'll hand out water and food rations myself if I have to."
SAC, or "Strategic Airlift Capability," is a Hungarian-based tactical logistics wing jointly contracted for use by NATO, UN, and other similar initiatives. Official press releases by the Hungarian Air Force suggest an initial drive of six hundred tons of supplies is scheduled, with more to be requisitioned weekly.

No comment has yet been made by the White House regarding the extent of the United States' level of commitment to supporting the UNOTURM mission. However, geopolitical experts expect a sizeable force allocation from Western nations in order to triage what could be seen as a domino effect throughout Middle Eastern countries as a result of affairs over the last two years, attenuated by the growing demand for controlling interests of resources made available through increased interest and benefit in the stability of Turkmenistan.
