So I am looking in to building a new PC and am not sure what type of motherboard to get. Do you guys have any recommendations for DDR4 motherboards?

Also what liquid coolers do you guys use?

Have a look at the new Z170 Gigabyte boards, particularly the Gaming 7. Ignore the rating on pc part picker. This board takes the cake. There are some good Asus and MSI boards this time around as well, if you must pick something based on color.

Watercooling: Custom loop or all in one? Major differences here. You need to know what you are doing and have built a pc or two before you get into a custom loop in my opinion.

I have built several computers over the years but have never used any type of water cooling. I will most likely go with some sort of all in one setup.

Not sure what else you might be doing beside Arma, but water cooling is an added expense that you might not need.  If you're planning on overclocking your processor then it's something to consider, but if not then you probably don't need water cooling in my opinion.  If you have a decent size case with good airflow that is. 

I can run Arma, Battlefront and other AAA games on my system at max graphics with no problems and have never had a problem with heat.  But, I'm not overclocking my system either.

I'm wondering if I need to do better/more Arma preference and settings tweaking...I feel like I've done so much, but my FPS is inconsistent. Some Ops I'm getting 50+ FPS, other times around 30...it is frustrating

That's arma for you. I overclocked my pc with watercooling an additional 25% and saw about a 10 fps jump in single player. Then followed an optimization guide and better memory allocator and saw another few frame increase. Multiplayer I have seen ZERO performance gain. Arma runs like crap online.

My specs - The basics anyway...

Intel i7-4770 CPU @ 3.4GHz (Not overclocked or tweaked in any way)
Nvidia GeForce GTX 760
16GB RAM (Don't remember the brand but it's new within 4 months) - the system came with 8GB - the big improvement I saw when adding more ram was time for rendering videos dropped dramatically.  Not much improvement in Arma.

I actually bought my system thru Newegg a year or so ago for about $900 and been super happy.  I've got nice peripherals and do recording and editing without any problem performance wise. 

I've also tried to optimize Arma but it seems that individual experience is very dependent on the server performance.  During most Ops I get about 30-50fps but when the server is chugging it will drop to 10 easily.  From my experience, if you're mostly playing Arma, if you just have a decent processor and a decent to good video card with at least 8 gigs of RAM you'll probably get as much as Arma can give you.  Again, just my experience but I don't know if you need to go all crazy on hardware as Arma just isn't optimized that well for multiplayer....in my opinion.

You should - I'll get over 200 in editor which will go between 30 - 70 in Ops depending on the map and what's going on. But it's Arma so 30-70 in Ops is totally reasonable and very nice/playable.
