(C) INTREP 01-24(S) With the continued deteriorating situation in and around the Iraqi cities of Ramadi and Fallujah a key protagonist organisation has come to notice - Abnar Al-Karbouli (AAK) (Son’s of Al-Karbouli). According to OSINT, there is a "general consensus" that the ideology of the Son’s of Al-Karbouli is "primarily based upon the thoughts of the ever developing radical former Iraq politician and theoretician Mohammed Nouri al-Karbouli”. This ideology is now beginning to trend towards a more extreme political militant form of Islamism, possibly seeking gradual establishment of a new Caliphate.
(S) Indications are that the followers of Mohammed Nouri al-Karbouli, are well armed with Soviet style weaponry, are well disciplined, highly motivated, are lightly equipped, well trained, and devoted to their leader.
(S) Comment: Although untested against a conventional “Western Power”, it is anticipated that (AAK) have drawn experienced fighters, as well as some Iranian fighters to its fold. This level of experience is most likely to cause US forces some initial concern, especially with an initially lengthy supply chain. US lodgement elements should expect an unfriendly and hostile reception by (AAK). At this time “Agency” liaison with (AAK) has proven fruitless and is unlikely to develop in a positive way once US forces arrive in Theatre.
