Needs tips on recording - we have so many people recording and streaming now I'm sure somebody can help me out.

My vids have a lot of digitization *during movement* when recording with OBS - when standing still I have good visual fidelity but when I start moving I get lots of blockiness.

My system should be able to handle any level of recording activity but I watch other people's streams *coughSFC Heckmancough* and see *no* blockiness whatsoever during movement. Is that a *bitrate* issue? If so, what's a good setting for OBS bitrate to minimize blockiness during movement? 

My recording bitrate is usually set to 4500. 

Or is it an FPS issue? I had OBS set at 30 FPS.

If none of this, any other suggestions?

16 GB DDR4 3000 Ram
 
Yes, that is a bitrate issue. The BEST thing you can do is turn off grass in game, since that amount of detail causes the horrible compression. 4500 should produce decent quality, I think 6k is the sweet spot for streaming quality. If you are only recording, you can really crank out that bitrate if you have a lot of storage. Unfortunately, YouTube will compress the everloving shit out of the video, so 6k is what I recommend.

As for FPS, I stream and record at 48fps, since any upgrade from 30fps can make it look a lot smoother.

Im a touch confused. Do you want my stream or recording settings? Because those bitrates are pretty wild.

If its my streaming bitrate, I stream at 5k. You can go higher or lower but your audience will ultimately pay the price there. You can mash it to 7k but people might have issues watching without buffering. Grass does cause compression artifacts but so do trees. Playing without grass is a noob move for realism. The settings exists for those playing on potatoes. I also stream at 60fps.

Now for my recordings. This has been a journey lol. I currently record through OBS at 60000. I would love to record at 1440p but I wont get into that. (Thanks Top for sitting with me through the headaches). Recording is also at 1080p 60fps. This leaves me with a file size after Ops of about 70ish GB. So if you have poop internet don't bother. You can look at my last few vids  and see a progression. from 40k to 60k bitrate.

TL;DR
Bitrate matters, FPS matters, file size matters, internet matters. Btw... I have an NVidia card so I get to use their fancy NVENC codec to stream and record so it doesnt hit my system, like, at all. So you need a red team guy to tell you if your gpu has something similar. If you have more questions feel free to find me in TS and we can gab about it.

I'm gonna increase my bitrate (a bunch) and FPS settings (a bit) to try to increase quality.

4K resolutions also prevent the 'compressed' bit rates on both YT and Twitch. Some use that to keep visual fidelity - I personally don't like turning off grass, as "ma'mersion".
 
Here is a screenshot of my OBS Settings - My In-game resolution is 1440p but I scale down to 1080p @60fps to stream.

I noticed the issues diminished when I switched from H.264 encoding to Nvenc(new).

I only stream though, no recording so that may make a difference if you do both.

 
Yeah I'm pretty sure the Bitrate was the issue - everybody so far is using a higher bitrate than I was - hopefully jacking it up will improve the quality. 
 
Be prepared to fill that 500 gig harddrive quickly if you increase the quality. You won't be able to be like me and record things for the purpose of uploading but waiting 6 months between uploads because degenerate lazy piece of shit.
 
If you record stuff, even at high bitrates, you can find the time within 2 weeks to edit that shit and upload it as a video, then vacate the HDD space.
