CPU upgrade.

So looking at upgrading to a 4790k from my i7 2600k, (Might be waiting for the new 5xxx series but we will see)

So I have a https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/P8Z68V_PRO/ Mobo on a 1155 chip, Would this 4790k fit my mobo? http://www.amazon.com/Intel-BX80646I74790K-i7-4790K-Processor-Cache/dp/B00KPRWAX8

I've been reading some places saying z68 isn't compatible and that you need a z97, am I missing something?  Is that just because there is a 1150 version of the 4790k? I just need a 1155 i7 4790k?

Your motherboard takes a 1155 socket cpu.

The one you listed is a 1150.

The 1150 has less pins and isnt compatible with your motherboard.

The fastest is the Core i7-3770K which is hard to find as they stopped making them. Might be able to find one used though.

i have a 3770k and its really good, but upgrading from a 2600k isnt worth it.
it might be better to fully upgrade or oc your cpu for the time being.

Darn it, well I guess I'll look at a new mobo as well, I really did not want to upgrade my whole damn pc lol. Someone find me a good 1150 mobo preferably ASUS just because I know them pretty well, my case is a Coolermaster HAF 912, I'll have a little hunt for one but if you guys know of any then send them my way, try to keep it reasonable cheap.

Honestly I would wait till Aug when the new Intel stuff gets released. You'll be able to use DDR4 and some of the motherboards will be backwards compatible with DDR3. So you can save some money and keep using your same ram you have now.

Yea that's what I'm probably going to do. Just OC'd my 2600k to 4.5GHz and it seems stable so far, they should atleast cut the bottleneck with my 780ti till August, Maybe Christmas if I'm lucky.
