monitor question

I'm ordering a new pc this Friday, and was wondering what choice you guys would make given the setup i'm building.  It is going to be an I5 6600k with a GTX 1070. The question is, 1440p at 60 Htz or 1080p at 144 Htz. I'm building this computer for gaming ONLY. Primarily Arma. Thanks in advance for the input!

I don't know much about the 1440p route, but I'd say go for the greater HZ, you're going to get such a smooth performance with that rig. I got less than you and I get surprisingly really good.

+1 on this.  Refresh rate is where it's at.  This however has no basis whatsoever in ARMA as the likelihood of you seeing 60+ frames on any server is nil.  In other games however, it will be awesome.  I yearn to race Assetto Corsa at 144 fps but the financial backing just isn't there yet.  Playing around on a high refresh monitor is spooky at first.  You just move the mouse around to enjoy the fluidity of it.

IMHO, if you're going higher than 1080p, 4k or nothing.  Given the lack of good choices in panels and GPU's just now becoming available that can deliver 4k performance without taking out a second mortgage means 4k still may need to wait another year or so.

Whenever I pull the trigger on some new monitors, they will definitely be 4k.  With the beast graphics card you're getting it will be able to handle 2 screen at 4k with no issues. 

2LT Soto is right that you won't get anywhere near 60fps in Arma but you're going to be able to run Arma on High or Ultra settings anyway so it will look pretty nice.  The payoff is going to be in other FPS's.  4K monitors are freaking amazing and most AAA titles are able to be played in 4k.

Make sure you have 16MB of system ram and get the biggest processor chip you can afford.  Arma is more taxing on the CPU than the GPU. 

But, I have an I5 processor that I ordered just over 2 years ago with a new GTX 970 and I can run anything on Ultra with no issues so you'll be just fine.

With current tech go for the 1080p monitors with the higher refresh rates as 4k support is really not there yet. For a little while 1440p was seen as the "gamer" resolution but never really took off and therefore is already kinda of a dead resolution while the much faster refresh rate 1080p monitors are well priced and can deliver very fluid gameplay. Hopefully within the next couple of years 4k will become the standard and we will see GPU's that will be able to fully handle 4k without breaking the bank. I currently have a GTX 1080 and while it could run most games at 4k with mid settings,I run 1080p monitors with 144htz refresh rates since I really love the feel of fluid gameplay. The first GPU to come out that will be able to be a fully dedicated 4k card will be the GTX Titan X P, but with a price tag of $1200 price to performance is really not there.
