NEW US SUPERCARRIER TO PARTICIPATE IN NORDIC EXERCISES
[br]BY SVEN YGERDSON, NATO DESK[br]
Sweden is set to host Nordic Anvil, a series of multinational naval and ground military exercises on and around the Scandinavian Peninsula. One notable participating unit is the US 12th carrier strike group (CGS). It is an impressive fleet of 8 ships supporting the USS Doris Miller, a brand-new Gerald R. Ford class supercarrier. The commander of the strike group, Rear Admiral Walson McDill, is supremely confident. When asked about the US' involvement in the exercise, Admiral McDill had this to say, "We pulled out all the stops for Nordic Anvil. The Miller is our shiny new toy, and I brought along the best and brightest to keep her afloat. As for the ground exercises, the Corps aren't the only warfighters aboard. It'll be a sight to see when we let our ARMY brothers out of their nest." Nordic Anvil will be the biggest exercise in the region since BALPRAC '23.

[br]RARE EARTH METALS DISCOVERED IN NORTHERN SCANDINAVIA
[br]BY SOLVEIG HANSEN, SR ECONOMIC ANALYST[br]
Huge deposits of rare earth metals have recently been discovered in the arctic regions of Sweden. These elements are highly valuable and essential in the manufacturing of everything from consumer electronics to military hardware. This discovery is a massive economic boon for Europe as a whole. Reducing their reliance on imports from China. The Koval mining company has out bid a Murmansk based Russian company on a contract with the Swedish government to extract these resources. Much to the dismay of Russia who would love to avail themselves of this new source. Experts say it could take years before these materials can be fully utilized, but all agree this is a long-term strategic win for the EU and NATO.

[br]RUSSIAN COVERT NAVAL ACTIVITY IN THE BALTIC
[br]BY ANNIKA BJERKE, REGIONAL CORRESPONDENT[br]
The Norwegian military has spent the last few days searching for what they believe to be a damaged Russian submarine. They have reportedly intercepted a radio conversation in Russian on an “emergency channel”, and multiple other encrypted messages were picked up off their west coast that then terminated somewhere in western Russia. The search for this submarine comes just two weeks after the Milbert-Schwartzen undersea communications cables were mysteriously severed. A group called the “Frostfang Alliance” has claimed responsibility for this act of sabotage. However, Norden citizens believe that these two incidents are connected and are concerned that this may be the start of something bigger.
