Open for Discussion

MAJ (Ret) Hayes

11A Infantry Officer
I just wanted to mention this forum is open for discussion for all personnel moving over from the 15th and from other places. It's going to take us a few days to get everything hammered out and processed. So if you have questions or concerns this would be a great place to discuss them and keep in touch as we get everything completed regarding forums access and unit entry.

I'm still a part of the 15th, but I am considering coming over here. At this point I am still 17, however, so I am assuming I will have to wait until I turn 18 to join as well. Correct?

I have the same question as Johnstone, I want to talk with some friends, if it wouldn't be too much to ask for Capt, could you PM me the TS3 Info?

Those are excellent questions. Yes, there will be instructor positions and yes all S-Sections will be populated with the insane kind of people who like to volunteer crazy hour of work. I will say that we intend for the administrative side of the 506th to be considerably streamlined. The initial phase of unit stand-up is simply getting applications processed , figuring out assignments for 15th personnel making the switch. Exercise your patience and know that we want to get this working as quickly as you guys want to get to work.  ;D

I am willing to do almost any sort of volunteer work I can to help this unit get started. I would prefer ITB instructor/Rifle Range instructor or some kind of S1/Recruitment job but I do not mind doing what ever I can to help out.

Awesome to see you here De Vries, please post up an application just for our record purposes, it helps us track who is former 15th, obviously you guys are going to have training ported over. Although I myself am looking forward to doing the Air Assault course that is planned.

I think my question was overlooked. Is there any information on when operations will be taking place?

this may help

You understand the fact that this unit is a EST (GMT -5) time zone based unit, and the attendance requirements of operations on Sundays at 2000 EST (0100 GMT)?:

Currently there are no plans for alternative timed full scale operations. The 506th will run regular operations on Sunday Evenings at 2000 HRS EST. If two platoons fill up, as is expected. They will operate on a bi-weekly schedule allowing each platoon to support one another with fill-ins on their off week.

17 year old members from the 15th will be grandfathered in. The 18 age limit is for new members.

For those of us in the 15th trying to decide what direction we are going to pursue, what are some the areas we should expect during operations with the 506 to be different from the 15th?  Other than army units/equipment over that of the marines.

Doucette,

You can find out some basic information about our unit here. As the 15th has a policy against recruiting members from within their ranks, I do not wish to actively violate that policy. Having spoken to Col Penny about the situation, I will paraphrase what both parties deemed appropriate.

If you are interested in an Army-based light infantry experience with a small amount of supporting assets, the 506th will meet those interests.

If you are interested in large-scale USMC-based combined operations, the 15th is the place for you to be.

Do you have plans to keep up with the financial costs of all the servers and forums? As well as planning ahead to how much it might cost when the unit grows further?

Will the 506th have a recruiting server?  Help get the feel for the new unit.  =)

Not at the moment.

Our costs have been calculated and accounted for up to two full Task Forces (including supporting assets), without counting any additional resources that may be provided by members. Further growth will be considered if/when we are sure that the funding can be covered for it indefinitely.

Im still in the 15th not really sure if I want to pull the trigger yet as both units have a lot to offer. I would assume 15th members are free to transfer in the future once the dust settles a little?

The 506th will continue accepting applications and new joins until we reach the point that all our planned billets are full with active personnel. When that happens we will evaluate our needs and may create a poolee platoon for people to join us and train to become Air Assault Troopers while they wait for a billet to open up. In the end, we will want to provide an excellent ARMA home for people who want to play with us, WHILE insuring our operations are top notch and functional.

How will 506th operations differ from the 15ths operations?

From all of us, thank you Chang, it is greatly appreciated. :)

This is the structure command staff has planned:

Once we are at full strength a full weekly Task Force will look similar to the following:

Co Hq (Task Force Command)
1 Air Assault Platoon
2 Bradley Fighting Vehicles with 1 Fire Team of Infantry Each
4 Blackhawk UH-60 Transport Helicopters (that will have the capability of switching Blackhawk AH-60 DAPs as the Mission Unfolds)
1 A-10

*Please note this is the planned final Task Force combination, we may not be able to field all these assets right away until such time as we 1.) train personnel on appropriate equipment 2.) insure the assets listed do not over-power the enemy to the point of us being bored and 3.) ensure that we have the server tech capable of performing well with these assets.

So to give an insight into the exact unit structure:

2 Air Assault Platoons (1 per Weekend)
4 Bradleys (2 per Weekend) *A BFV is a 3 person crew and 1 4 man fire team, 7 personnel in total, all 11B MOS
8 Helicopter Aviation Pilots (4 per Weekend) * Our Helicopter Pilots will qualify on multiple helicopter air-frames to provide us with diverse and unique support
2 A-10 Pilots (1 per Weekend)

So according to this, we will be using Bradleys, not Strykers.

Correct, to the best of out knowledge Strykers are being used for Armored Reconnaissance, our Bradley section will be a Light Armored Combat Team, they will be in direct contact with the enemy engaging them with extreme prejudice.

alright, I dident know they where used for Armored Reconnaissance, thanks for the answer.

Do most people retain the same rank if they were from the 15th? See some people have the same ranks for the most part.

I'm trying to start the application process, but the post is locked and I can't access the application. How would I go about doing that?

Thanks,
Adam

You need to copy the application form and paste it in a new thread in the recruiting section. Then answer all of the questions and submit it.

Where applicable, we will be accepting lateral transfers from the 15th. Obviously if you go to a billet that is rank capped at a lower rank than your 15th rank, you will be reduced in rank appropriately. On top of that, you can even ask for a further reduction in rank if you want something to work towards(I don't think anyone has actually taken that option so far).

Just out of curiosity since the 506th will have a Bradley billet open sometime in the future, which variant of the Bradley will there be employed? Or will it be mission dependent?

Hey, you guys might know me from the 15th.

I'm just wondering some basics about switching over to here. How long is BCT/AIT, when are trainings and operations, etc.?

Just basically all I'd need to know to hop in.

Also, is there a reserve option for those who have school and can't play?

Evening, this is Cpl Maines from the 15th. May I respectfully request the TeamSpeak Information to say hello to some mates that have joined?
